The Best Advice You'll Ever Get

Posted By Diego | Soccer News | May 7, 2009, 04:56 AM |

Over years and years of experience, and also lots of conversations with fellow bettors and even some bookies (yes, they're people too!), I've accumulated a lot of, may I say so myself, wisdom regarding this crazy realm of soccer betting. And I've even narrowed it down to a few basic rules. And I'm even sharing it with you.

1 - Win Locally, Think Globally

This is a combination of two wisdoms, actually, and they are related. Think globally - think ahead, plan well, and don't take losses too hard. You will lose, because everyone loses sometimes. The important thing is to plan well enough so that you won't be devastated by a single loss, and to learn from mistakes, and use them to develop your prediction skills.

Win locally - in general, you should avoid accumulated bets. Sure it might be really tempting to put a string of bets and expect to win big. But that's just what it is, temptation. And the more bets you accumulate the harder it becomes to plan them out well and to plan your bets way ahead. Stick to singles and doubles, don't be seduced by the big bucks. Like I've said - think long term. The reward will come to those who wait and plan well (I promise to try and sound less like a Jedi from now).

2 - Leave Chases to Squad Cars

Remember: You are not on COPS. Say it with me: I am not on COPS. I will not chase my losses. I will not place an insane amount of money on a last-minute match just to compensate for a rough week of losses. Because seriously, folks, that's a terrible idea. Even if you win big and get all your lost money back, you'll just get a bad betting habit that will come back to bite you. Instead, grind your teeth, and stick to betting your regular amount of money. Profit will come in the end, with experience and skill. Betting is, in the end, all about thought and planning and hard work just like everything else is, not much different from the stock market for example. So be patient and resist the demon telling you to put it all on Barcelona.

3 - It's a Free Market

There are lots and lots of bookmakers out there on the markets. Sure, some of them aren't safe and must be avoided like a pit trap, but a lot of them are on the level. Which means that you have the opportunity to shop around, check and compare values and odds. And you know what? You simply must take that time to tour the odds every single time you bet. Because even if you have your favorite place to place bets, and odds (no pun intended) are that you will, all of a sudden you might discover that some other place has better odds for you. Keep accounts everywhere safe and trusted, and don't take anybody's word for the best odds on anything. Check, double-check, then place your money.
