Change is the Ultimate Constant in NASCAR
Posted By Diego | Other News | January 12, 2012, 05:47 AM |
It won’t be long before NASCAR betting gets into full swing with the Daytona 500 as teams are already in full overdrive arranging for new drivers, pit crews, sponsors and cars.
The news continues on a daily basis and among the latest stories is that Nationwide Series champion Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. will have a car in the Daytona 500 supplied by Roush Fenway racing. Stenhouse will race in the number 6 Ford for the Daytona 500. Roush Fenway racing will have the option of racing the number 6 Ford for the first five races of the NASCAR season. Stenhouse has had a fast rise as he was the rookie of the year in both USAC midgets and sprint cars for 2007. Stenhouse does have experience in the Sprint Cup big time circuit as he finished 11th in the Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte in 2011 as he drove the number 21 Ford for the Wood Brothers as a fill in for Trevor Bayne.
Meanwhile, Bayne has confirmed that he will return to the Wood Brothers and drive a car primarily sponsored by Motorcraft. The Wood Brothers have had a long association with Ford and its Motorcraft parts division. Co-owner Eddie Wood is pleased that Bayne is back in one of his cars. Bayne became the youngest driver in history to win the Daytona 500 in a major upset last year.
Meanwhile Richard Petty’s famed number 43 car will be occupied by Eric Almirola. Almirola has had an unlucky career as he has been involved with teams that either folded or merged into others but this has also given him the opportunity to develop his skills and maturity. He began his climb back to Sprint Cup competition by racing in the Camping World Truck Series.
Petty Racing’s Chief Executive Officer Brian Moffitt mentioned how impressed he and Richard Petty were at the work ethic of Almirola and that was a major factor in them signing him to drive Petty’s famed car.
Petty believes he has a resurgent team full of top shelf drivers but that Almirola is the best of the group and therefore gets the 43 car, which is among the most famed and revered in NASCAR history when Petty drove it to dominance in the 1960’s and 70’s. Almirola will team up with veteran crew chief Greg Erwin.
Teams continue preparations for “The Great American Race” as the pace of change in NASCAR has never been greater.
